1. RYA National Powerboat Certificate
(level 2):
Course cost:£225 per person (£200
per head in own boat)
Duration: 2 days
Previous Experience: None
Minimum Age: 12 yrs
1. Planing Power boat - This would be suitable
for anyone currently owning or thinking of purchasing
a speed boat.
2. Displacement Power boat - This would be suitable
for anyone currently owning or thinking of purchasing
a sailing boat with an auxiliary engine.
Both options of the RYA National Powerboat
certificate cover the following:
On-shore teaching:
1. Types of crafts
2. Engines and drives
3. Ancillary and safety equipment
4. Rope work and knots
Practical Skills:
1. Launch and recovery
2. Boat handling underway
3. Securing to a buoy
4. Anchoring
6. Man overboard
7. Assisting and towing disabled
craft
Coastal Skills:
1. Chart and compass
2. GPS
3. Tides
2. RYA Safety boat course:
Course cost:£250 per person
Duration: 2 days
Previous Experience: RYA Powerboat Level 2
This would be suitable for anyone acting as a
rescue boat driver where the supervision and recovery
of dinghies and windsurfers was essential.
The RYA Safety boat course includes:
Strategy: Planning and organisation
of a race day or event, responsibilities, crew
numbers and roles and communication.
Tactics: Preperation, basic
boat handling, dinghy and cat rescue, towing,
windsurfer rescue.
Equipment: Radio telephony,
equipment checklist, specification for a school/club
safety boat, first aid, capsize recovery.
